Police Shoot Puppy for Barking

A Michigan woman is mourning the loss of her dog after police killed the pup for barking.

Poor Lexie just wanted in.

Brittany Preston had to work an overnight shift, so she asked her grandfather to watch Lexie. Preston said her Grandpa has mild dementia and forgot that he left Lexie outside and went to bed.
Around 3 a.m., neighbors starting calling police to complain about excessive barking.
When the police showed up at the house, Grandpa tried to let Lexie in, but police surrounded her. The dog barked at police instead of entering the house.
The police claim that the dog charged them, so they shot her – 8 times.
Witnesses told Preston that as Lexie cowered against the house the police kept shooting.

“Eight shots in my dog is just horrendous,” said Preston.

The Saint Clair Shores Police Chief told 7 Action news that police spent hours trying to catch the dog with a dog stick. He said they only shot when they felt the dog posed a danger to them, and were concerned about kids out on their way to school. He also said neighbors reported the dog running at people in the neighborhood earlier in the morning.

Preston said she wants police to find a non-lethal way to handle dogs:

“You could sedate them and find out  who their owners are, instead of killing them and worrying about it later.”

The trend of cops killing family pets represents a “shoot first, ask questions later” mentality. One group of activists says that according to their calculations, a dog is shot by law enforcement every 98 minutes.
