UPDATE: Art Tyranny in Atascadero, Round Two
According to owner Bobbi Arkfeld of The ARTery — home of the (allegedly) rogue mural — the city of Atascadero, California has oh-so-graciously relented on the $460 filing fee and pushed back the July 6 deadline for appeal.
In the meantime, the Atascadero Design Review Committee has asked the Arkfelds to submit a redesign proposal of the mural for review...
"I'm willing to budge six inches," said Arkfeld of the mural, meaning that she is willing to reduce the size of the mural by six inches on each side.
When you consider that there is no ordinance — and therefore no permitting process — for murals in the city of Atascadero, the demand for fines, fees and "redesign proposals" is a bit heinous, to say the least.
Please let the city of Atascadero know what you think of their enforcement of ordinances that don't exist and their obstruction of Constitutionally-protected free speech: Click HERE
