UPDATE: Minimum wage for everyone! Scranton, PA mayor takes heat for slashing police, fire dept. paychecks

Scranton, Lackawanna County - The cash crisis in the city of Scranton is not getting any easier.

An attorney for three of the city's unions filed a petition to hold the city and mayor Chris Doherty in contempt of court late Tuesday afternoon.

The lawsuit says the mayor violated a court order by Judge Michael Barrasse last week which said the mayor could not pay nearly 400 workers minimum wage.

The lawsuit also says since that time no steps have been taken to rectify the situation.

"It's unfortunate it has got to be pushed this far but my members are suffering here," firefighters union president John Judge IV said. "Everyday that goes by is another question mark for them on how they're going to meet their financial obligations and pay their mortgages."
